The Minnesota Center Chorale is an auditioned community chorus that performs a mixture of quality classical and contemporary choral music in central Minnesota. The Minnesota Center Chorale (MCC) was founded in 1973 and is committed to providing both its membership and audience with a significant personal experience through the performance of great choral music.

Minnesota Center Chorale offers a wide repertoire of music that challenges its experienced local singers and inspires audiences. Recent performances include Haydn’s The Creation, Te Deum settings by Kodaly and Bruckner, Mozart’s Requiem, Bluegrass Mass with Monroe Crossing, I Hear America Singing with St. Cloud Municipal Band, A Civil War Portrait, Let’s Go to the Movies, and The Emerald Isle with Irish band, Ring of Kerry. MCC also performs a Holiday Cabaret concert and dinner fundraiser annually.

1. Job Overview

− The Artistic Director & Conductor position is a part-time, salaried position of the Minnesota Center Chorale
− This position is primarily responsible for the musical aspects of the operation of MCC
− This position is accountable to, and reports to, the Board of Directors
− Any tasks not included in this job description will be agreed upon by the employee and the President of the Board of Directors

2. Job Responsibilities

− Programming

o Develop, in consultation with the Board of Directors, programming for the choral season
o Develop, in consultation with the Board of Directors, the season’s schedule of concerts
o Identify specific editions of choral and instrumental music required and purchase from vendors when necessary
o Identify and develop collaborations with other musical groups and individuals

− Membership

o Identify types and numbers of new members needed for the choir
o Recruit new members
o Conduct auditions for potential new members

− Rehearsals

o Organize and conduct MCC choir and ensembles
o Schedule rehearsals
o Conduct all scheduled rehearsals, and notify choir members of any changes

− General Management

o Assist with the hiring and supervision of the Student Worker
o Communicate with the Operations Coordinator to complete tasks
o Assist in concert-related publicity
o Assist in development of grants

− Other Duties and Responsibilities

o Prepare and submit a monthly report for the Board of Director meetings with key updates
o Attend monthly MCC Board of Directors meetings
o Maintain and cultivate the MCC Mission Statement
o Communicate with the stage managers to determine concert-related needs

3. Required Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

− BA or Advanced Degree in Music with an emphasis in choral conducting or equivalent conducting experience
− Experience conducting or working with a community-based chorus and with singers of various musical skills and experience
− Interest in and commitment to embracing the mission of the Chorus
− Ability to offer strong leadership skills as well as to balance work within a team setting
− Flexibility in working with a diverse group of volunteers and personalities
− Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
− Ability to work with electronic mediums: word processing, e-mail, internet

4. Desired Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

− Master’s Degree in Music with an emphasis in choral conducting
− Experience utilizing social media platforms and creating postings
− Willingness to coordinate and participate in additional community performances and festivals (i.e. USA Community Chorus annual choral festival; YCCM sponsored Community Chorus festival, etc.)

Of Special Note: Minnesota Center Chorale has undertaken several international tours since its inception. MCC Members have expressed interest in the possibility of traveling again in the future. The expectation would be for the new tour to be decided by the Director, in cooperation with the Travel Committee, who would take care of the coordination of the trip.
