Music director /conductor needed for a community chorus & orchestra with a mission. The Woodbury Chorus & Orchestra performs 10-12 concerts per year to benefit local Food shelves in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Our group, founded 30 years ago, consists of 20 orchestra members and 60 chorus members. Instrumentation includes 3-4 violins, 2 violas, 2 cellos, 1 bass, 2 flutes, 1 oboe/English horn, 4 clarinets, 1 bassoon, 1 trumpet , 1 French horn, 1 trombone, 1 percussion, 2 pianists. Most have had extensive experience in school, community and church musical groups. Musicians are not required to audition, but are subject to the discretion of the director.
We perform classical, hymns, gospel, spiritual, patriotic, sacred and secular music. Rehearsals are held Saturday mornings from 9-12 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in N. St Paul. We rehearse from September through November and then January to mid- April. Time commitment during rehearsal weeks is approximately 5 hrs (prep, rehearsal, communications, arranging, etc.) and on concert weekends it’s 10 +hrs, depending on travel time. Concerts are Sundays in October, November, March & April and have included sites in Oakdale, N St. Paul, Wabasha, Forest Lake, Lino Lakes, Somerset, WI, Red Wing, Mora, Pine Island, Granite Falls, Willmar, Olivia, etc.
All members including past directors have been volunteers. We exist to help feed those in need and to feed our love of music! As a 501c-3 non-profit, we have raised over $540,000 and this provided over 2,600,000 meals for the needy. We have free-will offerings at the concerts designated for that Food Shelf, but we also have a separate basket expressly for WCO operating expenses. We own a truck that holds risers, drums and sound equipment, and the donations are used to cover rehearsal space, truck expenses, orchestra music, printing costs, etc.
Position would begin in anticipation of the fall rehearsal season which starts on September 8. Note that music performed in the spring concerts is also used in the fall.
