We invite Minnesota composers to submit an application to be considered for the annual ACDA-MN commissioning projects that will select composers for the MMEA All-State TB Choir and ACDA-MN State 9-10 TTB Honor Choir programs.

We are utilizing the resource depository of Opus Event to accept and house composition and mp3 uploads. There is no cost for this enhanced service for the applicant.
- Upload three compositions (pdf) reflected in the requested voice category (if possible)
- Provide mp3 links to each of the uploaded compositions

Criteria for 2020 State Honor Choir Composition for Minnesota Composers

American Choral Directors Association of Minnesota (ACDA-MN)
The Minnesota (only) composer will write an original choral composition in an appropriate difficulty level that will be debuted by the following ACDA-MN State Honor Choir:
State (grades) 7-8 TTB (Boy’s) Honor Choir
Performance scheduled for Saturday, November 21, 2020
Scores and CD sample recordings uploaded/submitted by November 1, 2019
- The composer will attempt to use a sacred or secular text appropriate for these age and ability levels.
- The composition should be 2 ½ to 3 ½ minutes in duration.
- The composition may be written for a cappella voices, with keyboard accompaniment, and/or with solo instrument accompaniment.
- The completed commissioned work should be in the hands of the ACDA-MN Executive Director six months prior to the scheduled performance listed above.
- A fee of $2500 will be paid the composer, with the first half ($1250) paid upon acceptance of this contract, and the last half ($1250) paid upon the satisfactory completion and timely delivery of the work.
- For programming considerations, it is recommended that the composer and the Honor Choir conductor collaborate together in determining the artistic content and style of the composition.
- Actual decision as to programming the composition for the Honor Choir performance shall be between the Honor Choir conductor and the Executive Director for ACDA-MN.
- All publication rights remain with the composer. Â In the event the composition is not published before the ACDA-MN Honor Choir performances, ACDA will reproduce the score for the ACDA-MN Honor Choir debut. Â ACDA-MN shall reserve all rights of reproduction until the scheduled ACDA-MN Honor Choir performance. ACDA-MN shall not be responsible to the composer or any other party for any unauthorized reproduction of the score.
- The following statement shall be included on the title page of the composition:

Criteria for 2021-22 All-State Choir Composition for Minnesota Composers

The Minnesota (only) composer will write an original choral composition (in a difficulty range of Class I/II from the Minnesota State High School League Music Handbook) that will be debuted by an MMEA All-State Choir meeting the following criteria:
Name of All-State Choir: Â All-State TB (Men’s) Choir (grade 11 & 12 TTBB)
- First Performance — August, 2021 at a location to be determined
- Second Performance — To be determined at Orchestra Hall
- The composer will attempt to use a sacred or secular text appropriate for a diverse public high school population.
- The composition should be 2 ½ to 3 ½ minutes in duration.
- The composition may be written for a cappella voices, with keyboard accompaniment, and/or with solo instrument accompaniment.
- The completed commissioned work should be in the hands of the MMEA Vocal Vice President and the ACDA-MN Executive Director no later than March 1, in the year of the All-State Choir debut.
- A fee of $2500 equally divided between ACDA-MN and MMEA will be paid the composer, with the first half ($1250) paid by ACDA-MN upon acceptance of this contract, and the last half ($1250) paid by MMEA upon the satisfactory completion and timely delivery of the work.
- For programming considerations, it is recommended that the composer and the All-State conductor to collaborate together in determining the content and style of the composition.
- Actual decision as to programming the composition for the All-State Choir performance shall be between the MMEA Choral Vice President and the All-State Choir conductor. Â Notification will be given to the ACDA of Minnesota Executive Director as soon as time would permit.
- All publication rights remain with the composer. Â In the event the composition is not published before the MMEA All-State Choir performances, MMEA will reproduce the score for the MMEA All-State Choir debut. Â MMEA shall reserve all rights of reproduction until the MMEA All-State Choir performance at the MMEA Mid-Winter Clinic. MMEA and ACDA-MN shall not be responsible to the composer or any other party for any unauthorized reproduction of the score.
- The following statement shall be included on the title page of the composition:
This work was co-commissioned as a special project in the year 2021-22 by the
American Choral Directors Association of Minnesota (ACDA-MN) and
the Minnesota Music Educators Association (MMEA).
- Upload three sample composition scores in PDF format and provide URL links to the corresponding performances in mp3 or video formats (listed in the application form).
