The Club seeks to hire an artistically gifted, energetic, and collaborative Artistic Director/Principal Conductor (AD/PC). This person will be well-versed in the history and repertoire of male chorus music and have a history of leading community-based male choruses as well as professional choral groups. Within the context of the organization’s vision and mission, the successful candidate will oversee the artistic health and growth of the Apollo Club. This will involve a collaborative effort with the Apollo Club Board of Directors and its various committees, particularly the Artistic Operations Committee. The AD/PC is a part time position. Salary may be commensurate with experience.

Required Qualifications

● A degree in music from a NASM-accredited institution. The focus of this education should be on choral conducting
● Effective choral conducting skills
● Effective interpersonal communication skills
● Experience as artistic director and principal conductor of a community choral group
● Experience in working collaboratively within a mid-level community choral organization’s vision, structure, and budget to develop and effectively implement an artistic vision
● Experience in nurturing relationships with patrons and donors who can advance the club’s mission
● Working knowledge of the repertoire of music for community as well as professional choral groups

Desired Qualities:

In addition to the required qualifications, we hope the candidate will possess some of the following qualities:
● Experience in directing professional choral groups, and currently working full time in music
● Record of securing grants and gifts to advance an organization’s vision and mission as well as its artistic direction
● Advanced degree in music (e.g. MM, DMA, PhD) with emphasis on choral conducting
● Extensive knowledge of vocal performance and pedagogy
● Appreciation of social aspects of a fraternal organization
● Rehearsal-appropriate keyboard skills
