Alice T. Larsen Graduate Study Scholarship

The Alice T. Larsen Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2013 by former students and colleagues, to honor the pioneering influence of Alice T. Larsen (1924-1989), Professor of Music and Conductor of the Manitou Singers at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. Managed and administered by the FMC Endowment Fund Committee, this named scholarship program will award a female-identified Minnesota choral director or vocal music educator a scholarship to pursue a graduate degree in choral conducting or vocal music education at the college or university of her choice.

Female-identified applicants are encouraged to apply for the FMC Graduate Study Scholarship if they haven’t been a previous recipient of that scholarship award.

Application Deadlines

First Round: April 1

Second Round: August 1

*Applications submitted by the first round deadline will be given priority consideration. If funds remain following the first deadline, additional applications submitted by the second round deadline will be considered. Payment will be made upon ACDA-MN receiving proof of enrollment, such as an invoice for tuition.

Eligible Applicants

  • A female-identified choral conductor or music educator working in the state of Minnesota.
  • Membership in ACDA is required.
  • Must be in pursuit of an advanced degree in choral conducting or vocal music education.
  • Has completed a minimum of two years of teaching vocal music or choral conducting in Minnesota.
  • Previous recipients of the Alice T. Larsen Memorial scholarship are encouraged to reapply, but award priority will be given to applicants who have not previously received the scholarship.
  • Note: Female-identified applicants are encouraged to apply for the FMC Graduate Study Scholarship if they haven’t been a previous recipient of that scholarship award.

Award Category

  • Up to three scholarship of $1000-$1500 each will be awarded for either full or part-time graduate study
  • Selection will be made by the FMC Endowment Fund Scholarship Subcommittee

Full-time graduate student status implies that the applicant will resign from their current teaching position, and become a full-time resident graduate student throughout the length of the graduate program. Applicant could assume a part-time conducting/teaching position as they pursue graduate studies. Part-time graduate student status implies that the applicant will retain their current teaching position, while pursuing graduate studies.
